Leading Afro House vocalist Lizwi and international electronic artist Tommy Veanud has joined forces on ‘UNqamlezo’, released via TV Recordings on 30th April, 2026. A powerful Afro House single that blends spiritual depth and is rooted in African music traditions, ‘UNqamlezo’ is driven by organic percussion, tribal rhythms, and rich melodic elements.
Lizwi is widely recognized within Afro House, with early collaborations alongside Da Capo and a release on Armada Music and support from industry leaders, including Black Coffee. Her catalogue of work to date spans seminal labels such as MoBlack, Get Physical and more. Her collaboration with Joezi, ‘Amathole’, gained widespread attention in 2024, generating significant online engagement. Let’s get to know Lizwi better with our new face to face interview.
Who inspired you to become a vocalist?
Well, it’s hard to answer that question. I grew up liking to sing, but would hide it from everyone at home. I would listen to the radio and feel connected whenever I listen to music. I remember hearing MamBusi Mhlongo‘s music, and I would literally cry, and I didn’t know why. That woman changed my life and inspired the Lizwi that people know today.
Which kind of music did you listen to when you were a teenager?
I listened to different genres even today. I like a little bit of Rock, Gospel, R&B, and House music.
And now?
Nothing really has changed. I listen to all kinds of music.
Which platform do you use to listen to music?
Spotify, YouTube.
Why is Africa becoming so important in the electronic music scene?
I think we have the right people representing us to the world. The likes of Black Coffee, Themba, Vanco, to name a few.
Your favourite vocalists, DJs, and producers?
I have so many in the industry, and I get to be introduced to so many vocalists. If your music sounds amazing, you’re my favourite. DJ Black Coffee is my favourite, and he is unknowingly my mentor. That man played my music and opened doors for me, knowingly or unknowingly.
Your favourite clubs and festivals?
Whichever club or festival invited me to perform, and I got a chance to interact with my people (the fans), those are my favourites. Of course, Tomorrowland is Wow. I would love one day to perform there.
The most important record in your box?
Every project I’m in is very important for me.
Your all-time favourite track?
‘Amathole’, my featuring with Joezi (2022). That track opened so many doors for me.
How do people send you promos and music?
Management takes care of that. But mostly they email them.
Your favourite food / actor / football team / TV series?
Food: chicken; actor: Jennifer Aniston; football team: Mamelodi Sundowns, TV series: I have many, but one I enjoy is The Good Doctor.
Your hobbies?
I enjoy watching TV and getting some rest whenever I can.
Your upcoming projects?
I’m working on several collaborations, as well as my own singles for the upcoming summer.
Your lifelong dream?
I want to travel more and truly experience the beauty of the world; I don’t think the internet does its justice. Most importantly, I want to share those experiences with my son.
