Kampala continues to be a source of new electronic music, and FLO is now stepping forward with her debut solo album, ‘NAKATO’, due on October 2026, Friday 19th on Nyege Nyege’s Hakuna Kulala. The record marks a new chapter for Florence Lugemwa, who has spent years working alongside Jonathan Saldanha in HHY & The Kampala Unit.

Before moving deeper into electronic music, Lugemwa was teaching trumpetto children in Kampala and building a brass band with them. Her profile changed in 2020, when she appeared on Ugandan national television during an NBS Nyege Nyege takeover, combining eclectic DJ selections with improvised vocals. Her work with HHY & The Kampala Unit subsequently took her to international stages, while she continued teaching music in her hometown.

‘NAKATO’ brings that background into a 13-track album developed with Saldanha. gqom, hyperpop, R&B, dancehall and electro-metal intersect across the record, with fractured rhythms, heavy basslines and a voice that is repeatedly processed, pitched and reshaped. The tracklist includes “Stickit”, “Euphoria”, “Burn”, “Sexual Feeling” featuring Aunty Rayzor and “Gaba Road Fire”.

The album places FLO within the Hakuna Kulala roster, alongside artists including MC Yallah, Catu Diosis, Ziúr and Afrorack. For an artist first known through trumpet, brass education and HHY & The Kampala Unit, ‘NAKATO’ represents the first opportunity to present her own musical language across a full-length release.
